CAN-DO-KIDS perform at Military Ceremony

South Whidbey's own Can-Do Kids Performing Group was the featured entertainment for a prestigious military ceremony Sept.13, at Camp Murray in Fort Lewis in honor of retiring Adjutant Gen. Greg Barlow.

The program included "The Spirit of America," a patriotic salute to the United States, and the Can-Do Kids" most recent, "The Pledge," a song of, peace and unity. Their performance brought enthusiastic applause from the audience of nearly 1,000, which included Gov. Gary Locke, former Gov. Albert Rosellini and Secretary of State Ralph Monroe, along with the highest chain of command gathered at one time at Camp Murray in the past 20 years.

Following the performance, the Can-Do-Kids were whisked away in a military bus to their next stop, Olympic Elementary School in Tacoma, where they performed a variety of songs for grades four through six, including their latest Wanna Smoke? What A Joke!"

The song was recently selected as the theme for the Whatcom County Youth Anti-Tobacco Summit scheduled for Oct. 15, where the young performers will sing and also perform an anti-tobacco skit.

The Can-Do-Kids Performing Group continues to perform through the region, singing songs that communicate family values personal safety information and choosing to say Not to tobacco, alcohol, drugs and violence.
